Pointing of cardboard-gypsum panels

Before we commence pointing the cardboard-gypsum panels we have to make sure if they have been installed properly to the surface or the metal construction, according to principles of their assembly.

Joining the panels with the use of glass fibre tape

To join the cardboard-gypsum panels one should use a self-adhesive tape made of glass fibre. First the tape must be applied upon the joint between the plasters.

After the panels have been joined one should apply a thin layer of ACRYL-PUTZ® START and after its drying another wider layer until the whole tape varnishes.

Covering the tape with patching mortar

Applying a layer of ACRYL-PUTZ® FINISZ upon the joint of the panels

In the event of pointing with the use of paper tape or glass fibre nonwoven interlinings, it’s important so that the patching mortar has a suitable consistency. It’s recommended to dilute ACRYL-PUTZ® FINISZ mortar by adding around 5% of pure water. Such prepared mortar is applied upon the joint of cardboard-gypsum panels, bearing in mind to apply sufficient thickness of the layer.

Applying the paper tape and pressing it by a putty knife

Further stage is to apply a paper tape upon the patching mortar and press it so as to squeeze excessive amount of the mortar from under the tape. It’s important not to damage the tape when performing the aforementioned activity. In order to obtain a better slide it’s recommended to apply small amount of mortar upon the putty knife when pressing it against the tape. It’s important so that the tape is in between the mortar.

Applying the patching mortar upon vertical panels

After the applied layers have dried, one can apply another layer of ACRYL-PUTZ® FINISZ by using a wide putty knife, so that the paper tape is covered wholly by the mortar.  This operation is repeated by applying wider stripes of putty knives. When pointing the cardboard-gypsum panels with the use of paper tape or nonwoven interlinings the total number of layers amounts to 3.

Grinding

Grinding the applied patching mortar

After drying the mortar must be grinded by using a grip handle with sandpaper or grinding net (recommended sandpaper 100-150). After grinding the surface must be dedusted carefully before applying the primer.

Inspection of pointing

Inspection of pointing with the use of a torch

In order to carry out inspection of performed works one must direct the light (torch, lamp) parallel towards the wall. It will enable to notice possible roughness and badly grinded spots.
